Help us add to our growing body of work
What we are looking for
Original content between 700-1500 words describing (1) a personal journey or inflection point in your life, (2) a general insight that you believe to be thought provoking or (3) an opinion on the state of our space. Some tips that may guide you:
- Think about a time when you overcame a hardship or had to make some kind of inner transformation- a personal journey, a loss or change in your life.
- How did this change happen? What steps did you actively take? Were they physical or mental? Was it an absence of trying that eventually got you to your endpoint? It’s okay if whatever the conflict was hasn’t been resolved yet. We want real stories, and they don’t always have a fairy tale ending!
- A good piece will spur conversation – what new and interesting perspective do you have to offer? How is your story unique?
- Think about the impact of your words. What can readers take away from your piece that will change the way they think about their worlds or their own personal journeys? What practical takeaways are there from your story?
- Focus on one theme and do a deep exploration of that topic rather than a broad overview of many subjects.
- Look at some of our published articles/pieces to get a feeling for what we want to see.
- Be honest! The best writing comes from a place of truth and vulnerability
What we will not accept
- Product placements or promotions. We believe that change comes from within and do not endorse supplements, pills or nutritional therapies.
- Self promotion of your business – we want unbiased stories that inspire, at this time we are not promoting coaching services. If it’s tangential to the story, this is acceptable but the prime purpose is for readers to be able to put into practice what they are reading for free.
- Work that has been published elsewhere. Similar publications are acceptable to a degree.
- Fiction.
How can I pitch to Within Magazine?
- Send an email to contribute@within-magazine.com
- Give us a short introduction, who are you? What is your elevator pitch? Why do you want to write this piece? What is your intent?
- An editor will contact you if we like your initial submission and set up a meeting to discuss your work further
The process
- An editor will request a virtual meeting to discuss your work and the direction we want to take with it. We will help you guide your idea and develop its final draft. Ultimately these are your words and we will never outright change them but make suggestions based on our content guidelines.
- There will likely be a few revisions as we go back and forth to help your story flourish – nothing will be published until all parties are satisfied.
